CHELTENHAM NORTH played with tremendous spirit to force a draw against
Old Patesians in the semi-final of the Cheltenham Combination Senior
Cup at Everest Road.
But under the rules of the competition it is Pats who go through to
the final against Cheltenham as they scored more tries.Pats played downhill
in the first half and their try scorers were scrum-half Darren Moore,
winger Rich Stevens and full-back Stuart Taylor. Fly-half Adam Seager
landed two conversions.
North responded with a try from scrum-half Nelly Webber which he converted
and the same player also kicked a penalty goal.
Referee Phil Watters sent Pats players Paddy Dean and Gethin Evans
to the sin-bin for foul play and they were joined by North's Matt Dean
as the half-time ended 19-10 in Pats favour.
After the break Pats hooker Matt Deacon went over for a catch and drive
try but from then on in North took control.Their try scorers were Dave
Johns and Matt Teague, while Webber and John Morrison added conversions.The
scores were level with 10 minutes remaining and it took some tremendous
tackling from Pats to keep North at bay.in time added on Morrison missed
a difficult penalty and the final whistle sounded to the relief of the
Pats players.
